This following article is pending the approval of the Mercer County Commissioners and signatures of all required. There is a need for ALL Veterans Organizations in Mercer County, to submit an official letter( Post/Chapter letterhead with signature Commander or equivilent ) to the Mercer County Veterans Affairs Administrator with the names, addresses and phone numbers of both the Primary and the Alternate representatives assigned to attend the meetings

MERCER COUNTY VETERAN’S ADVISORY COUNCIL BY LAWS
The Mercer County Veterans Advisory Council represents all Veteran’s organizations in Mercer County. Veteran’s organizations/posts recognized in Mercer County are:
- Veterans of Foreign Wars
- American Legion
- DAV Chapter 55
- Italian-American War Veterans
- Catholic War Veterans
- Mercer County Vietnam Era War Veterans
- Korean War Veterans
- Amvets
Veteran’s organizations/posts will select a primary and alternate member to represent their respective organizations/posts from their elected or appointed post / organization officers. The alternate will replace a primary member if they cannot attend a meeting. The alternate will have no vote in the deliberations of Council unless they are representing a primary member. Veteran’s organizations/posts will submit the names, addresses, telephone number and E-mail addresses, if applicable, of primary members and alternates to the Director, Mercer County Veterans Affairs.
The purpose of the Council is to advise the Mercer County Board of Commissioners of Veteran’s concerns in Mercer County. The members of Council will serve for a period of two years or unless sooner replaced by their organizations. The Mercer County Board of Commissioners will formally appoint all members to the Council as recommended by their organizations. The Council will elect from among its members a Commander, a Vice-Commander and an Adjutant. Nominations will be taken in October with election in November. They will serve for a period of two years unless replaced by a majority vote of the Council. The Commander will call a meeting of the Council at least once each month of the Calendar year at a time and location of his choosing. The Council can meet at any time at his call. He is responsible for setting the agenda and conducting the meeting. The Vice-Commander will act at the direction of the Commander and will conduct all meetings in the absence of the Commander. The Adjutant is responsible for the day to day operations of the Council and keeping minutes of all meetings. A quorum for the meetings will be 1 elected officer and 3 or more organization or post representatives.
The Director of Veterans Affairs, Mercer County will be a non voting member of the Council. The Council will report to him all matters of Veterans concerns within Mercer County. It is the responsibility of the Director to present these matters to the Mercer County Board of Commissioners for resolution. The Director is also responsible for providing administrative, mailing and financial support to the Council.
