- A Tribute to Sol

This is Nikki Mendicino, Sol Garrett and Michele Mendicino ( Nikki's Mom). Sol never missed a Vigil in all 22 years and we regret to say that Sol passed away 8 Apr 06. He is the last parent of Mercer County's MIA from the Vietnam War, Capt. Maurice Edwin Garrett Jr. We will all miss Sol and his Bride, Mary Jane and feel comfortable in the fact that they now know the truth about their son. God Bless.

- A Great Loss, Maurice Garrett Sr. service 11 Apr 06

"Sol" Garrett was a good and great man. Measure him in stature and in deed, family and friend alike.  A WWII Veteran and the Father of Maurice Jr, missing in Vietnam. We will miss you. You and your family have touched our organization deeply. Good bye my Friend.

"Sol" died 8 Apr 06 and he will rest with his wife, Mary Jane, forever. Next to their resting place is a marker denoting their son. The truth is now known by both his parents.

- Start of 2007 23rd POW/MIA Vigil

Article from the Greenville Record Argus

The Herald

Inside warming up in Headquarters

Out in the freezing weather. You have to want to be there.

Sen. Bob Robbins is with us every year and is a part of this event. He understands the need to keep this issue in the public eye.

Con. Phil English has taken the time to be with us and addresses this issue. He is a friend of Veterans and always has an open ear.

Michele and Nikki Mendicino... Always out to promote Veterans. Nikki is on her way to becoming the POTUS.. Go Girl!!. Bob Bucholtz is President of V.V.I. Pittsburgh and he and many members seldom miss our Vigil.

We light a candle for Capt. Maurice Garrett ( Mercer County's POW/MIA from Vietnam) and Maj. Vincent Scungio (Lawrence County's POW/MIA from Vietnam). This is done in conjunction to reciting the name of every MIA in Vietnam in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
